1. To provide users with an in depth knowledge of serial diagnostics
2. Outline the different type of connection to the modern vehicle covering k line, k and line and CAN style of communications
3. Cover some of the features of the serial communications device across a range of
different manufactures and systems
4. Enhance the technical skills of the delegates of the course

Day1

Course welcome, ice-breaking and Product Tour

9.40am – 12.30pm

- VAG systems
- Gateway connection or individual system communications
- Address numbers to each system
- Function numbers and operation of functions
- Group numbers and operation
- Recoding control units
- Reading live data
- Basic settings
- Altering adaptions
- Candidates to use majority of function to the above functions on a variety of vehicle systems

12.30pm - 1.00pm Lunch Break

1.00pm –2.00pm - Engine diagnostics

- Covering both manufactures and EOBD
- EOBD MODES

o Readiness tests
o Mode 1 Live data
o Mode 2 Freeze frame data
o Mode 3 Confirmed codes
o Mode 4 Clears data codes freeze frame etc
o Mode 5 O2 sensor results
o Mode 6 Non cont test raw data
o Mode 7 Cont test results Pending codes
o Mode 8 Component and ecu tests
o Mode 9 Vehicle Info
2.00pm -3.00pm - Interpreting engine live data

- Connecting to vehicle either using EOBD or manufactures compatible software
- Engine main 5 sensors
- Closed loop control
- Adaption from within the ECU
- Fuel trim
- Lambda regulation before cat
- O2 interrogator value

Recap and Practical on the day’s tuition – Q’s & A’s

Day 2

9.00am – 10.00pm

Overview of diagnostic on body and chassis related systems e.g. ABS, TC and ESP, Alarm Immobiliser instrumentation systems
- Immobilizer operation
- Separate Immobiliser units
- Integrated units to engine instrumentation etc

10.00am – 11.00am - Body control systems

- Central locking alarm

11.00am – 12.30pm

- Supplementary restraint systems
- Over view of system components
- Reading fault codes and live data from the supplementary restraint system

12.30pm - 1.00pm Lunch Break

1.00pm - 1.30pm Introduction to CAN networks

1.30pm – 3.30pm

- Vehicle fuelling systems
- Covering both petrol and diesel fuel systems
- Emission control
