Exploring the benefits of scissor lifts and 4 post lifts.

A vehicle lift is used more times per day than any other piece of equipment. It is therefore one of the most important investments you can make for your garage and sometimes, the most confusing. Here, we explore the benefits of scissor lifts and 4 post lifts to assist in the decision-making process.

The 4-Post lift and scissor lift are the most common used lifts for the MOT bay as they come supplied with wheel play detectors and turntables as standard. However, they can also be useful for service and repair work.

Scissor lifts

§  Size – Scissor lifts are smaller than 4-Post lifts and are a good option if space is limited.
§  Application – Scissor lifts give you plenty of space to work on an MOT or bodywork repair for most vehicles, but limits underbody accessibility.
§  Lifting capacity – Crypton’s range of scissor lifts are available in class 4 up to 4 tonnes and class 7 up to 5 tonnes.
§  Specifications – Specifications for scissor lifts are dependent on vehicle class and application. Full information on Crypton’s range can be located here.
§  Features & Benefits – Scissor lifts lie flat on the garage floor when not in use, creating more space in your garage and allowing you to park a vehicle over when not in use. Scissor lifts are also cheaper than 4-Post lifts due to less material.

4-Post lifts

§  Size – 4-Post lifts take up more floor space than scissor lifts and space should be considered between the columns for vehicle loading and accessibility.
§  Application – The support columns makes it reliable for most heavy vehicle lifting. Also, unlike scissor lifts, a vehicle’s underbody is more accessible for service and repair requirements.
§  Lifting capacity – Crypton’s range of 4 post lifts are available as recessed or surface mounted in class 4 up to 4.0 tonnes and class 7 up to 5.0 tonnes.
§  Specifications – Specifications for 4 post lifts are dependent on class and application. Full information on Crypton’s range can be located here.
§  Features & Benefits – 4-Post lifts are more complex than scissor lifts, however, they are easy to load a vehicle, reliable and able to store up to two cars vertically for long periods of time.

Questions to consider when buying an automotive lift:

Before making the decision about which lift to purchase, it is worth asking yourself the following questions:

§  Which car lift will fit into your garage space?
§  What applications will the lift be used for?
§  What lifting capacity will you need?
§  What specifications will you require? (Simplicity, ease of controls, reliability etc.)
§  What features and benefits does each lift option offer?

With these answers in mind, you will be in a better position in choosing the best vehicle lift for your facility.
